The Fabric crew goes for the realness on their 45th mixed release, rounding up Mr. Alex Omar Smith to break things down in true, no-holds-barred Detroit fashion. Adored by many, misunderstood by some, but respected by all who know what’s up with quality, no-bullshit music, Omar S drops what amounts to a FXHE label showcase. Yes, all cuts on the disc are produced by him, but, as he states, “I’d rather do a mix for Fabric that’s all my own shit, because there are still a lot of people out there that don’t know about FXHE records or Omar S or Oasis.” So, Omar S does his thing, blending 16 of his finest tunes into a raw, chugging, hypnotic stew of ear-perking synth work and head-nodding 4/4 rhythms. Omar’s lack of interest in the often-preposterous and shallow elements of the electronic music “scene” shines through in his productions and is thoroughly appreciated by this writer. Fabric 45 is a great collection of timeless tracks from a true soldier of sound. Keep on pushing, Mr. S. (Dean DeCosta)
